NEOM’s Board of Directors has introduced Leyja, a captivating new tourism destination nestled within the vast expanse of northwest Saudi Arabia. This remarkable addition is set to further enhance and diversify the Kingdom’s ecotourism offerings.
Leyja stands as the latest jewel in NEOM’s crown, following the announcement of flagship regions such as Sindalah, the luxurious island; THE LINE, a pioneering cognitive linear city; Trojena, the year-round mountain destination and the GCC region’s first outdoor ski experience; and Oxagon, the reimagined industrial city at the forefront of advanced and clean industries within NEOM.
Leyja boasts a rich tapestry of history and mythology. It begins its journey along the enchanting Gulf of Aqaba coast, lapping at the western shores, and then meanders inland to form a breathtaking natural valley cradled between towering mountains, sculpted over millennia by the forces of nature and water.
This latest endeavor by NEOM is aligned with the broader ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030 to foster a robust and sustainable tourism sector. Embracing NEOM’s overarching strategy to designate the majority of its lands as nature reserves, Leyja will preserve 95% of its territory for nature conservation. Innovative ecological design and construction techniques will be deployed to ensure that the development harmonises seamlessly with the pristine landscape.
Leyja will be home to three thoughtfully designed hotels, conceived by world-renowned architects to harmonize with the surrounding environment while prioritising sustainability. These three properties will collectively offer 120 boutique rooms and suites, with each hotel featuring 40 keys.
The first hotel, designed for adventure enthusiasts, is described as a “masterpiece of deconstructed architecture” that ascends the wadi’s walls like a staircase, leaving the natural contours of the terrain undisturbed. Nestled into the cliff tops and valley sides, it beckons rock climbers and adrenaline seekers to explore the surrounding area.
The second property rises gracefully from the rocky landscape, acting as a gateway to the wadi’s largest oasis and an invitation to explore the valley’s hidden treasures. The staircase leading from the canyon floor to the property’s entrance offers unparalleled panoramic views of the valley’s natural splendor.
The third property, an immersive wellness retreat, promotes longevity and mindfulness. Its high-tech, reflective facade mirrors the valley’s beauty and allows the wadi to flow through the center of the property, creating a unique and interactive experience for visitors.
Upon completion, Leyja will offer an array of refined experiences and activities, including fine dining options crafted by world-renowned chefs. Each of the three properties will feature wellness facilities and rooftop infinity pools with stunning vistas. Guided wadi walks and exhilarating hiking trails through the dramatic mountain landscapes will be available to guests, along with opportunities for mountain biking and climbing for adventure enthusiasts.
