Pioneering Developments in Luxury Accommodation
Initially, the introduction of tourist visas catalysed the rapid development of the hospitality industry, attracting world-renowned hotel brands to establish their presence. From luxury to boutique, a plethora of global chains have announced significant projects, each bringing a unique flavour of hospitality to cater to the discerning tastes of high-end travellers.
Luxury Brands: The entry of luxury hotel brands such as Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, Six Senses and Aman Resorts has set new standards in opulence. The Aman Resorts, for instance, is expanding its footprint with multiple properties in AlUla, offering experiences from desert camps to ranch-style resorts.
Unique Concepts: Niche luxury concepts have also taken root, such as the development of the Sharaan by Jean Nouvel in AlUla, which integrates modern architectural marvels within ancient landscapes, offering an immersive experience that blends luxury with cultural heritage.
Sustainable Developments: Sustainability is a key focus, with projects like the ENVI Lodges in The Red Sea area championing eco-friendly luxury, showcasing Saudi’s commitment to conservation without compromising on luxury.
The Red Sea Project
KSA’s Red Sea coast will, in the next months and years, become increasingly attractive as a holiday destination. In 2023, The destination welcomed its first guests, marking a pivotal moment for Red Sea Global (RSG) and the Kingdom’s burgeoning tourism industry.
Six Senses Southern Dunes, a few kilometres inland from the coast opened in December 2023, and St. Regis Red Sea Resort on Ummahat Island opened in January. Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, is now also welcoming its first guests on the Ummahat Island.
Also, all 38 stainless steel overwater villas and 35 beach villas have been installed at the Sheybara island resort, and the resort at Desert Rock remains on track to welcome first guests later in 2024.
Looking further ahead, 2025 will, according to Red Sea Global, see the completion of 11 luxury hotels on Shura Island and the completion of the main terminal at RSI airport.
Likewise, a little further up the Red Sea Coast towards NEOM, at Amaala, Triple Bay will welcome first guests in 2025 as the first eight hotels begin to open their doors, in addition to the one of a kind Corallium marine life institute and iconic Yacht Club, in “phase one” of development. This will add 1,406 luxury keys to the region. Triple Bay phases 2 and 3 will see 10 more hotels with more than 1500 keys opening by the end of 2027.
JEDDAH'S PREMIER PROPERTIES
Just like in many parts of the kingdom, the hotel scene is evolving quite rapidly in Jeddah. There is already a number of excellent properties to choose from, with many more in the pipeline.
Shangri-La
Currently topping the list is the Shangri-La, which is a Virtuoso approved property.
