Red Sea Global is slated to inaugurate its very own “Shebara” hotel brand by summer 2024. Planned for the secluded Sheybarah Island within the Al Wajh Lagoon, the resort will be the inaugural property fully under the ownership and operational helm of RSG.
Speaking at the World Travel Market in London, John Pagano, RSG’s CEO, said that Shebara was poised to “redefine the benchmarks for luxury hospitality in Saudi Arabia”, emphasising a blend of world-class service with a firm commitment to sustainable development.
While RSG recently heralded the upcoming Thuwal Private Retreat, Shebara Resort will set the stage for a breathtaking marine life experience with its proximity to an extensive reef drop-off ranging from 30 to 40 metres adjacent to its beaches.
Pagano said, “It has long been our mission to extend our pioneering approach to regenerative tourism across a wider portfolio of brands and subsidiary companies, to create an ecosystem that will drive meaningful change in the global tourism industry. Shebara is a beacon for all that RSG stands for, showcasing the very best in Saudi hospitality while setting new standards in responsible development and sustainable operations,”
The resort contains 73 keys, including overwater and beach villas. Guests arrive either by a 45-minute boat ride from the mainland or in 20 minutes by seaplane.
Its design strategy lays out the villas in an arc, mirroring a “string of pearls” with a central reception building as a pivotal point in this maritime-inspired setting. Each component has been thoughtfully placed to enhance the visual impact and minimize ecological interference, showcasing RSG’s serious approach to sustainable luxury.
The design philosophy draws heavily on the innate beauty of the natural environment. The villas themselves are constructed to reflect the ever-changing hues of the ocean and sky, blurring the lines between man-made structure and the organic landscape. The stainless steel “pods” are reported to be assembled in the UAE, resulting in a minimal footprint on the island.
Shaun Killa, Design Director and Founder of Killa Design, said: “Shebara is a wonderful example of what is possible when creating beautiful yet meaningful design. It demonstrates how innovative architecture can gracefully flow into nature, with pods that reflect and refract light from the sun, the sky and the sea to naturally blend with the environment. From the eco-materials chosen to the lunar positioning of the villas, our priority has been to honor the natural beauty that exists here, while creating a resort that embodies modern luxury.”
For the discerning guest seeking utter privacy, there’s the offer of an entirely bookable island complete with its own jetty for yacht mooring, a quartet of bedroom villas, a personal beach, and an exclusive BBQ space.
Emphasising its green credentials, Shebara will run on renewable energy, primarily solar power generated by a dedicated solar farm. This installation is part of a grander scale initiative that includes five solar farms with an impressive tally of over 760,000 PV panels, ensuring the resort’s energy consumption is both sustainable and self-sufficient.
Development of Shebara is happening at pace, with all 38 overwater villas now in place. While the first overwater villa took nine hours to install, the developer perfected this process so that the last villa was in place in under two hours. So far 25 of the beach villas have been installed, and substantial progress has been made on the other front and back of house structures and infrastructure.
