Government warning: only use official sources for Hajj & Umrah visas

In a bid to safeguard pilgrims and maintain the sanctity of Hajj, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has issued a stern warning against fake Hajj companies operating for the 2024 season. The ministry emphasised that pilgrims must obtain a Hajj visa issued exclusively through Saudi authorities or official channels. Many of these fraudulent companies target unsuspecting pilgrims through social media advertising in various countries.

The ministry commended the Iraqi Supreme Commission for Hajj and Umrah for its cooperation with law enforcement, which led to the arrest of over 25 fake Hajj companies. Their efforts have significantly contributed to curbing illegal activity. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah also expressed appreciation for similar actions taken by other nations and urged continued collaboration to prevent unauthorised pilgrimage.

The importance of religious tourism in Saudi Arabia

Religious tourism is a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector, with millions of pilgrims travelling annually to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah for Hajj and Umrah. As part of Vision 2030, the Kingdom aims to attract 30 million Umrah pilgrims and 5 million Hajj pilgrims annually by 2030. This significant influx is supported by continuous infrastructure development and improved facilities to enhance the pilgrim experience.

Every year, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah introduces new facilities and initiatives to facilitate the journey of pilgrims. This includes improved transportation systems, additional accommodation facilities, and enhanced crowd management measures. Moreover, the ministry is constantly upgrading digital services to streamline visa applications, bookings, and travel arrangements.

Combating fake Hajj companies

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah remains vigilant in monitoring fake Hajj company advertisements abroad and strongly encourages everyone to report them. Pilgrims are urged to only trust information provided through the ministry’s official website and social media channels.

In the ongoing efforts to ensure a smooth and legitimate pilgrimage experience, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reiterated that cooperation is crucial to reducing the occurrence of illegal Hajj companies. For accurate and official information, pilgrims should visit the Ministry’s website and social media channels.
