Saudi Arabia launches “Spectacular Saudi” campaign, targeting Indian travellers

Saudi Arabia has launched a groundbreaking new campaign aimed at attracting more Indian visitors, positioning India as the Kingdom’s top inbound tourism market by 2030. The Spectacular Saudi” campaign, launched earlier this month, showcases the nation’s rich blend of ancient heritage and modern marvels, targeting Indian couples, families, and culture seekers.

India represents a critical tourism market for Saudi Arabia for several reasons, most notably its vast population, growing middle class, and increasing outbound travel. With over 1.4 billion people, India is home to one of the world’s largest and youngest populations, providing a significant pool of potential tourists. As the Indian economy continues to grow, more people are travelling abroad, seeking cultural experiences, historical explorations, and adventure tourism.

This new initiative is part of the Saudi Vision 2030, an ambitious plan to diversify the Kingdom’s economy, with tourism playing a central role. The campaign features breathtaking visuals of UNESCO World Heritage sites like Diriyah’s At-Turaif, Hegra in AlUla, and the historic streets of Al Balad in Jeddah, alongside the Red Sea’s pristine waters and Saudi’s vast golden deserts. Through these captivating images, Saudi Arabia is positioned as a must-visit destination for those looking for unique and culturally immersive experiences.

Speaking about the launch, Alhasan Aldabbagh, President of APAC Markets at the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA), said, “Indian travellers have long shown a deep appreciation for authentic and unique experiences. They are keen to explore novel destinations, cultures and gastronomy, and that isexactly what Saudi has to offer. With iconic destinations like Diriyah, Al Balad, and Hegra in AlUla– three of Saudi’s eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, they can walk through history dating back millennia, and with tailor-made packages, experience world-class culture, adventure, and cuisine.”

He added, “We are excited for Indians to experience the warm Saudi welcome, a core part of our heritage, and something intrinsic to Indian culture as well. India holds an incredibly special place in our hearts, andwe are committed to making India the number one source market by 2030.”

Tourism growth between India and Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s tourism strategy is anchored in its cultural and historical significance, which resonates deeply with Indian tourists. But in addition to its rich cultural appeal, Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in infrastructure to cater to Indian preferences. With the restoration of heritage sites and the development of cultural festivals, visitors can immerse themselves in authentic Saudi experiences.

The “Spectacular Saudi” campaign is the latest effort in a series of strategic moves by the Saudi Tourism Authority aimed at tapping into the growing Indian market. In 2023, the Kingdom welcomed 1.6 million Indian travellers, marking a 50% increase from the previous year. This impressive growth was largely attributed to enhanced air connectivity, a successful partnership with the Indian Premier League (IPL), and the introduction of streamlined visa processes. STA has confirmed that this year has seen a further massive 240% surge in leisure visits by Indians.

With over 330 direct weekly flights connecting Indian cities to Saudi Arabia, and the availability of 96-hour stopover visas for travellers, visiting the Kingdom has never been easier.
