Double the discovery

Qatar Tourism, the Saudi Tourism Authority, and Discover Saudi, have unveiled a new promotional campaign entitled “Double the Discovery”. The campaign was announced at ITB Berlin, and seeks to promote tourism in both neighbouring GCC countries, offering international visitors in both countries the chance to explore the rich cultural and historical wonders of Qatar and Saudi Arabia in a single trip.

“Double the Discovery” introduces meticulously designed travel packages that promise a gateway to unique and enriching experiences, highlighting the diverse terrains, architectural wonders, and vibrant cultural traditions of the two countries. Qatar Airways, the award-winning national carrier, is named the official airline partner for the campaign, ensuring seamless travel experiences for participants.

Prominent cultural sites include the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha, home to a vast collection of Islamic art, and Jeddah’s UNESCO World Heritage site “Al Balad”, alongside modern shopping and dining venues in both Doha and Riyadh. Coastal offerings range from Qatar’s serene beaches to the historical and natural allure of AlUla in Saudi Arabia, promising a diverse and enriching travel experience for all.

H.E Mr. Saad Bin Ali Al Kharji, Chairman of Qatar Tourism, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative: “The launch of this campaign is a step towards enhancing cooperation among GCC destinations, aiming to offer a comprehensive cultural experience to global visitors. It reflects our commitment to showcasing the distinctive attributes of Arab and GCC culture and to boosting tourism in line with the strategic objectives of both Qatar and Saudi Arabia.”

He further highlighted the growth in tourism: “The impressive increase in visitor numbers last year, reaching 4 million, underscores the breadth and quality of Qatar’s tourism offerings, spanning cultural, sports, and recreational activities, supported by superior services in transportation, travel, and hospitality.”

Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO and Board Member of the Saudi Tourism Authority, shared insights into Saudi’s tourism growth: “With over 20 million inbound visitors in the first three quarters of 2023, Saudi Arabia is rapidly becoming the entertainment hub of the Middle East. Our participation in ‘Double the Discovery’ will facilitate access to the rich cultural and heritage sites of the region, complementing the modern and vibrant urban experiences available in our cities.”
