Red Sea open for business

In a landmark moment for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector, the much-anticipated Red Sea destination, spearheaded by Red Sea Global (RSG), flung open its doors to its maiden guests on October 11.

The skies over Red Sea International Airport (RSI) buzzed with excitement as a specially adorned SAUDIA flight from Riyadh touched down. Onboard were some of Saudi Arabia’s most esteemed dignitaries, including ministers, VIPs, and visionary leaders. The flight number, SV2030, was thoughtfully chosen, reflecting the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, a testament to the significance of this momentous occasion.

John Pagano, the Group CEO of Red Sea Global, expressed his elation and gratitude, “Achieving this monumental milestone has been a result of unwavering support from our partners across the Kingdom. Welcoming them as our inaugural guests is a small gesture of our immense gratitude. With our airport now operational and our flagship resorts open for reservations, the enchanting allure of the Saudi Red Sea coast is ready to mesmerise global travellers.”

Guests flying on Saudia’s celebratory flight received a commemorative boarding pass, while the Saudia Boeing B787 aircraft was designed with Saudia’s new brand identity – representing the beginning of a new era – as well as the Red Sea destination logo. Onboard, guests enjoyed an integrated display of Saudi culture through various services, which included Saudi coffee, fine dates, in-flight music and entertainment programs, and a Saudi-inspired menu.

Additionally, the in-flight screens displayed several videos illustrating the objectives of the Red Sea destination and its timeline. Meanwhile, the CEO of Saudia, Captain Ibrahim Koshy, and the CEO of Red Sea Global, John Pagano, spoke about their partnership that brings together both parties where Saudia is the first airline to fly to the new destination, and supports the implementation of the initiatives that contributes in achieving sustainable flying to the Red Sea destination in fulfillment of its quest to be Wings of Vision 2030.

The visiting delegation was treated to a grand tour of the destination, with a special highlight being the luxurious St. Regis Red Sea Resort, which is gearing up to host guests by year-end. From exhilarating watersports and captivating diving adventures to thrilling in-land excursions, the Red Sea destination promises an array of experiences. To cap off the visit, the guests were hosted at the Six Senses Southern Dunes, the premier hotel to grace The Red Sea destination.

As the sun sets over the Red Sea, one thing is evident: this is just the beginning of a new chapter in luxury travel and sustainable tourism for Saudi Arabia. The world watches with bated breath as the Red Sea destination promises to be a game-changer in global tourism.
