Red Sea International Airport (RSI) has marked a pivotal moment in its operational history with the launch of its first direct international flights, a move by Red Sea Global (RSG) to bolster its connectivity and tourism prospects. The inaugural flydubai flight from Dubai International (DXB) to RSI, scheduled to commence on April 18, will introduce a bi-weekly service, enhancing the existing domestic connections provided by Saudia since September 2023.
John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, articulated the significance of this expansion, noting that RSI is strategically positioned within a three-hour flight radius of 250 million people and aims to host one million guests annually. “This international route inauguration is a stride toward placing Saudi Arabia at the forefront of global tourism destinations. The UAE, the Middle East, and other regions can now directly access The Red Sea’s offerings,” Pagano said. He also highlighted the airport’s role in connecting employees, partners, and the local community.
Currently, RSI facilitates access to two luxury resorts, with high-profile guests such as Cristiano Ronaldo already among its visitors. The upcoming year will see the opening of three additional premium resorts, including the globally rare Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, the innovative Shebara with its unique overwater villas, and the stunning Desert Rock, seamlessly integrated into the mountainous landscape.
Michael White, Chief Commercial Officer of Red Sea International Airport, expressed excitement about this next development phase and the commitment to provide top-tier services to passengers and airlines, anticipating further network expansion.
RSI is on course to become the Middle East’s first carbon-neutral airport, implementing groundbreaking sustainable practices to mitigate carbon emissions, maximize energy efficiency, and optimize resource management. The airport’s design also aligns with LEED Gold Certification standards and adheres to Dark Sky Guidelines to reduce light pollution.
Sudhir Sreedharan from flydubai commented on the significance of being the first UAE carrier to establish a direct link to RSI, signifying a commitment to connect new markets and strengthen ties through Dubai’s aviation hub.
By 2030, The Red Sea is expected to feature 50 resorts with a combination of hotel and residential accommodations across islands and inland sites, supplemented by luxury amenities including marinas, golf courses, and leisure facilities. The destination is sustainably powered by solar energy, with substantial solar farms and a significant battery storage facility already operational.
For high-end travel advisors, this development presents a new, luxurious destination for clientele seeking exclusivity, sustainability, and unparalleled hospitality in the heart of the Red Sea.
