Imagine Monet: a transformative experience in Jeddah

For the first time, the “Imagine Monet” exhibition has come to Jeddah, offering a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to immerse themselves in the masterpieces of the iconic Impressionist painter Claude Monet. This extraordinary exhibition, which has already graced cities such as London and Los Angeles, is a highlight of Jeddah Season 2024, running until July 28, and promises to be an unforgettable experience for art enthusiasts of all ages.

Curated by digital immersive pioneers Annabelle Mauger and Julien Baron, “Imagine Monet” is the largest dedicated virtual display of its kind. Visitors can explore over 200 of Monet’s most recognised works, brought to life through innovative technology and 360-degree projections. The exhibition is organized into three distinct sections, each offering a deep dive into different aspects of Monet’s life and work.

The first section focuses on Monet himself, his family, garden, and the landscapes that inspired him. The second section is dedicated to Monet’s famous series, including “Haystacks,” “Rouen Cathedral,” and “Gare Saint-Lazare.” The final section presents a breathtaking display of Monet’s garden in Giverny and his iconic “Water Lilies” series.

“Imagine Monet” leverages modern techniques to create a truly immersive experience. The exhibition features 40 HD projectors and Image Totale technology, developed by Albert Plecy and enhanced by Hans Walter Muller’s topo-projection. This technology allows Monet’s artworks to transcend their frames, filling the exhibition space with high-definition projections that offer 360-degree views on walls and floors.

Abdullah bin Slaih, an educational guide at the exhibition, elaborated on Monet’s innovative use of light and nature in his work, emphasising the artist’s commitment to capturing nature as he saw it.

The exhibition is designed to be engaging for visitors of all ages. It features a dedicated section for children, which includes interactive activities, such as creating their own artworks inspired by Monet’s style, and a green grass maze where kids can explore and play surrounded by art installations and plants that reflect Monet’s love for nature.

Some describe the experience as dreamlike. The immersive experience brings Monet’s masterpieces to life in a new way, allowing the visitor to witness the same same scenes in different lights and seasons. Music adds an emotional depth that transports the visitor into Monet’s world.
