Qatar Airways has celebrated its expansion into Saudi Arabia with a distinguished ceremony at AlUla.

January 15 2024 marked a significant date in the aviation and cultural sectors of the Gulf region as Qatar Airways inaugurated its new route to AlUla, known for being Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO Heritage Site.
The event was graced by cultural dignitaries from both Saudi Arabia and Qatar, signifying a new chapter in regional connectivity and cultural exchange. It was notably attended by His Highness Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al-Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture, and His Excellency Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Culture, alongside Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.
Guests were treated to an outdoor luncheon at the prestigious Habitas AlUla resort, set against the breathtaking natural backdrop of the desert. This luxurious setting, combined with traditional Arabic hospitality, offered a unique cultural experience, epitomizing the melding of natural beauty and luxury that AlUla offers.
A Journey Through Time
The delegation embarked on a tour through AlUla’s Old Town, revitalised to blend ancient architecture with modern flair. The visit also included the Hegra Archaeological Site, where the fusion of historical legacy and modernity was celebrated with a photo opportunity against the enigmatic Tomb of Lihyan Son of Kuza.
The event not only marked the expansion of Qatar Airways’ network but also reinforced the bilateral cultural ties between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Ministers from both nations recognized the importance of cultural endeavors in deepening the relationship between the two countries.
Qatar Airways’ addition of AlUla to its destinations enriches the travel landscape, offering explorers an opportunity to immerse themselves in a city where antiquity and progress coexist harmoniously. The airline’s CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, expressed delight in connecting this historic city with the rest of the world, emphasizing AlUla as a must-visit destination.
Flight Schedule Unveiled
Operating two weekly flights to AlUla, Qatar Airways brings the total number destinations to Saudi Arabia to 10, including 125 weekly flights across AlUla, Dammam, Gassim, Jeddah, Medina, NEOM, Riyadh, Tabuk, Taif, and Yanbu.
