Royal Commission for Makkah City showcases spiritual and natural wonders at World Travel Market 2024

The Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites (RCMC) has concluded a highly successful participation in the World Travel Market 2024 in London, showcasing Makkah’s unique blend of spiritual significance and natural beauty. At the Saudi pavilion, RCMC presented Makkah as a destination where visitors can immerse themselves in both the city’s profound religious heritage and its stunning landscapes of mountains and valleys.

Makkah: a destination of spirituality and nature

Makkah’s allure lies in its combination of sacred heritage and breathtaking scenery. The RCMC’s pavilion captured this harmonious blend, inviting visitors to explore Makkah’s revered historical landmarks and cultural sites alongside its natural landscapes. Through this exhibit, the Royal Commission highlighted its commitment to enriching the visitor experience by enhancing service levels and promoting tourism, cultural discovery, and historical appreciation.

The Royal Commission’s vision extends beyond religious tourism, positioning Makkah as a destination that connects the sacred with the serene. The pavilion showcased how visitors can engage with Makkah’s natural surroundings—from its valleys and rocky mountains to preserved areas—alongside its historical and cultural sites. This approach reflects a broader view of Makkah as a place of spiritual retreat that also offers opportunities for natural and cultural exploration.

Enhancing visitor experience through infrastructure and hospitality

A key focus of RCMC’s participation at the World Travel Market was showcasing the infrastructure and hospitality initiatives aimed at improving the visitor experience. RCMC presented details of Makkah’s growing public transportation system, designed to offer a smooth and reliable experience for both pilgrims and visitors. This system features the Makkah bus network, covering 12 routes across all neighbourhoods, providing a seamless way for visitors to explore the city’s blend of spiritual and natural attractions.

The Royal Commission also highlighted its efforts in shaping Makkah’s urban landscape to reflect its sanctity while meeting modern needs. Through its involvement in the developed neighbourhoods project, RCMC is transforming Makkah into a contemporary urban centre with an architectural identity that honours its historical significance. This includes the development of Makkah’s ring roads, which streamline movement within the city and connect it to highways leading to nearby cities, further enhancing the visitor experience.

Highlighting cultural heritage: from the Hira Cultural District to the Kiswa Factory

Another central theme at the Saudi pavilion was RCMC’s strategy for developing historical and cultural sites. The pavilion featured landmark projects such as the Hira Cultural District, which celebrates the significance of Jabal al-Nour, where the first revelation of the Quran was received. Other highlights included the Revelation Exhibition, which offers a journey through Islamic history, the Kiswa Factory of the Holy Kaaba, where the Kaaba’s iconic cover is crafted, and the Institute of Manuscripts and Revival of Islamic Heritage, which preserves valuable Islamic texts.

These projects emphasise RCMC’s commitment to presenting Makkah as a cultural and historical hub, underscoring its role in Islamic history and its influence across generations. By preserving and promoting these sites, the Royal Commission offers visitors a deeper understanding of Makkah’s heritage.

Investment and future opportunities

The RCMC pavilion also positioned Makkah as an attractive destination for investment. With a thriving hospitality sector and major development projects underway, the Royal Commission showcased new partnership and investment opportunities aimed at enhancing services and infrastructure in Makkah. This focus on investment highlights RCMC’s vision for sustainable growth and a high-quality visitor experience, establishing Makkah as both a spiritual destination and a dynamic, modern city.
