2023 stands as a historic chapter for RSG, as it proudly opened The Red Sea destination to its first guests. This event not only marked a milestone for the company but also represented a leap forward for Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector.

The Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red Sea, and St. Regis Red Sea Resort have already started operations, with Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, soon to open its doors. Shebara resort has finished installing its overwater and beach villas, and Desert Rock resort is on schedule to welcome guests later this year.

Adding to its roster of exclusive destinations, RSG unveiled Thuwal Private Retreat, further showcasing its ability to diversify and enrich its offerings along the Red Sea’s picturesque coastline.

Group CEO John Pagano reflected on the company’s vision and recent achievements, saying, “Our mission to develop new destinations as beacons of responsible tourism, showcasing the best in sustainable and regenerative development, gains unprecedented urgency as our planet continues to face challenges in relation to the climate crisis and biodiversity loss. Our resorts are representative of positive change, supporting local communities, preserving cultural heritage, and contributing to the conservation and enhancement of the environment.”

Red Sea airport is open to domestic flights with international flights coming soon

Pagano continued, “We are truly excited by our accomplishments to date and are confident that our goals for 2024 and beyond will continue to push boundaries and shape the future of regenerative tourism. Together, our dedicated workforce and committed partners are determined to continue driving economic growth, creating job opportunities, protecting and regenerating environments, while delivering unforgettable experiences for our guests at The Red Sea, Amaala, and future destinations.”

The allure of RSG’s ventures is attributed to their untouched natural beauty, cultural richness, and world-class hospitality. Emerging brands such as Akun, Galaxea, and WAMA are integral in sustainably harnessing these elements to offer guests unparalleled and enduring experiences as they delve into the unknown.

The guest profile at The Red Sea destination is changing the narrative of travel, aligning with a global shift towards sustainability, a trend that the 2023 Sustainable Travel Report confirms, showing a growing preference for eco-friendly travel despite prevailing economic pressures.

In line with its vision for sustainability, RSG announced its “Coral Commitment”, a dedicated effort to protect and rejuvenate the coral ecosystems within the Red Sea. The company also launched Corallium, its marine life institute at Amaala, and shared positive results from its Coral Gardening Pilot Project. Looking ahead, RSG is set to enhance its capabilities with a cutting-edge coral breeding laboratory.

Moreover, RSG has made substantial ecological strides, having established its first mangrove nursery and committing to planting 50 million mangrove trees by 2030. The company’s sustainable approach extends to developing over 20 acres of new wetlands, which treat water without chemicals and enable biodiversity to thrive.

In a remarkable sustainability achievement, RSG has completed the installation of over 760,000 photovoltaic panels, ensuring that phase one of The Red Sea project is entirely powered by solar energy and operates off-grid.

The Red Sea International Airport (RSI) has been operational since September 2023, catering to a steady stream of domestic flights and welcoming over 11,500 passengers.

Looking to the future, 2025 will see the completion of 11 luxury hotels on Shura Island and the main terminal at RSI. Additionally, Amaala, Triple Bay is on track to receive its first guests in 2025, alongside the opening of the unique Corallium marine life institute and the iconic Yacht Club.

As RSG continues to bring its projects to life, including the innovative Staff Village, the company remains transparent about its progress, having announced partnerships with five international operators, and anticipates the announcement of further collaborations in the months to come. This is just the beginning of a transformative journey for Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector, led by RSG’s pioneering spirit and a vision that reaches far into the future.
