Sheybarah one step closer to completion

Mammoet, a heavyweight in engineered heavy lifting and transport, has completed the intricate installation of the Sheybarah Island resort, adding a new jewel to the Red Sea’s crown. This resort is a significant addition to Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 project.

The company, in collaboration with Red Sea Global (RSG), reached a significant milestone by installing the last of 73 prefabricated villa orbs, marking the end of the project that began in May 2022. The hyper-luxury resort, designed by Killa Design, features uniquely shaped overwater and beach villas, including front-of-house and F&B buildings.

Mammoet’s responsibility extended from transporting the villas all the way from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to their final resting place on Sheybarah Island, ensuring minimal disturbance to the island’s ecosystem, which is rich with mangroves, white sand dunes, and coral reefs.

Precision was key to the project, with Mammoet deploying a 650t capacity Demag CC3800 crawler crane on a modified barge, the ALE 250, especially adapted for the task. The barge’s shallow draft and a 300t spud jacking system, provided by Mammoet’s partner Combifloat, played a crucial role in protecting the marine environment during the installation.

The use of hyper-accurate GPS systems and locally controlled jacking mechanisms facilitated the flawless placement of the villas, showcasing Mammoet’s commitment to innovative solutions and environmental care.

The successful completion of the Sheybarah Island resort is more than just an engineering feat; it represents a leap forward for Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The Red Sea project, spanning 28,000 square kilometers, is expected to not only boost the nation’s GDP but also support economic diversification and create employment opportunities.

Jack van den Brink, Managing Director for Mammoet Middle East and Africa, shared his enthusiasm: “We are proud to have played a pivotal role in bringing RSG’s vision to life. We remain committed to delivering excellence in every project, in this case contributing to the creation of the world’s most spectacular and sustainable hotels.”

RSG, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), is a developer with a focus on sustainability and economic upliftment. As a part of Vision 2030, RSG is instrumental in transforming the nation by harnessing local talent and the private sector to develop assets that positively impact both people and the planet.
