The Chedi Hegra has announced the appointment of Mark Wouters as General Manager, bringing a highly experienced international hotelier to one of Saudi Arabia’s most culturally significant luxury hospitality projects.
Located in Hegra, AlUla—Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site—The Chedi Hegra represents a unique blend of heritage, design and contemporary luxury hospitality. Mark Wouters’ appointment reinforces the brand’s commitment to delivering a refined, culturally immersive guest experience in one of the Kingdom’s most extraordinary destinations.
With more than 20 years of experience in luxury hospitality across Europe, Asia and Oceania, Wouters brings deep expertise in hotel pre-openings, brand positioning and ultra-luxury operations. His career includes senior leadership roles in China, notably in Shanghai, as well as a key role in the launch of The PuXuan Hotel and Spa in Beijing, widely recognised as one of the city’s leading luxury hotels.

Earlier in his career, Wouters worked with globally renowned hospitality brands including Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, as well as Huka Lodge in New Zealand, further strengthening his credentials in high-end service culture and guest experience.
Recognised for his calm and people-focused leadership style, Wouters places strong emphasis on team culture, operational excellence and creating an authentic sense of place—an essential component in destination-led luxury hospitality.
In his new role, he will oversee all aspects of operations at The Chedi Hegra, with a focus on delivering an experience that is intuitive, understated and deeply connected to the heritage of AlUla.
“Hegra is a place of extraordinary significance. At The Chedi Hegra, our focus is on creating a guest experience that is thoughtful, understated and deeply connected to its surroundings, allowing guests to engage with the destination in a meaningful and authentic way,” said Mark Wouters.
This appointment comes at a pivotal time for AlUla, as the destination continues to establish itself as a global hub for culture, heritage and sustainable tourism in Saudi Arabia.
