The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and the Ministry of Tourism of Saudi Arabia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding marking an important extension of their collaboration.
This historic agreement comes on the heels of the highly successful WTTC Global Summit held in Riyadh last year and reaffirms Saudi Arabia’s dedication to the growth of its Travel & Tourism sector. The Kingdom is allocating a staggering $800 billion to unlock the full potential of its awe-inspiring landscapes and cultural treasures, with the intention of making them accessible to travellers worldwide. This landmark partnership brings together both the private and public sectors in a joint endeavor to create a sustainable framework for growth.
The MoU, inked during the Kingdom’s World Tourism Day event in Riyadh, strengthens the cooperation between WTTC and Saudi Arabia, with a focus on advancing key objectives. These include promoting job creation, nurturing talent development, and expanding global business opportunities within the Travel & Tourism industry.
This partnership aims to elevate tourism to a prominent position on both the global and national agendas, and seeks to promote skills development, innovation, entrepreneurship, investment, and the transition toward a more sustainable and resilient Travel & Tourism sector. Moreover, the collaboration will prioritise community empowerment, inclusivity, and joint efforts in crisis preparedness, management, and recovery, drawing from the valuable lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Princess Haifa bint Mohammed Al Saud, Vice Minister of Tourism for Saudi Arabia, highlighted the significance of the extended partnership, saying, “Yesterday’s extension of our partnership with WTTC marks a significant milestone in our journey towards a more sustainable tourism sector. This collaboration highlights our commitment to fostering global business opportunities and talent development while underlining the vital role of public-private partnerships in shaping the future of Travel & Tourism.”
Julia Simpson, President & CEO of WTTC, underlined her enthusiasm, stating, “Through the signing of this MoU, WTTC and the Ministry of Tourism of Saudi Arabia embark on a new chapter of cooperation, uniting our expertise to shape a prosperous future for the Travel & Tourism sector. Together, we can continue to create a powerful synergy that will open doors to endless opportunities, benefiting travelers, businesses, and destinations alike.”
