flynas, the Middle East’s leading low-cost airline and a global leader in affordable air travel, celebrated the inaugural flight between Dammam and Red Sea international airport on December 28. This new domestic route marks a significant step in expanding flynas’ network while supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals to boost tourism and enhance regional connectivity.
The inaugural flight was marked by celebrations at both King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and the Red Sea International Airport. The events brought together representatives from flynas, King Fahd International Airport, and Red Sea International Airport to commemorate this important milestone.
From December 28, flynas has begun operating two weekly flights connecting Dammam, one of its four operational bases in Saudi Arabia, with the newly opened Red Sea International Airport – every Thursday and Saturday. This strategic route not only serves The Red Sea destination, a flagship project under Vision 2030, but also benefits surrounding communities in the region, further enhancing domestic travel options.
The Red Sea destination, situated along Saudi Arabia’s pristine northwestern coast, is a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030 tourism strategy. Known for its untouched natural beauty, turquoise waters, vibrant coral reefs, and a chain of over 90 islands, the Red Sea project promises to become a global hub for luxury, sustainability, and eco-tourism.
The region has been meticulously developed to align with environmental sustainability goals. It will feature ultra-luxury resorts, eco-friendly accommodations, and bespoke travel experiences that showcase the natural wonders of Saudi Arabia. The new Red Sea International Airport, built to serve this world-class destination, reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to providing seamless and sustainable travel experiences.
The role of Red Sea International Airport
Designed to offer a state-of-the-art travel experience, the Red Sea International Airport features advanced green technologies and an architectural design inspired by the surrounding landscape. It is poised to handle both domestic and international travellers, serving as a key gateway to The Red Sea destination. The airport will also support regional communities, enhancing accessibility and connectivity to one of Saudi Arabia’s most ambitious tourism developments.
With the addition of this route, flynas continues its impressive expansion as a leader in Saudi Arabia’s aviation industry. Already recognised as the best low-cost carrier (LCC) in the Middle East, flynas plays a pivotal role in making travel more accessible and affordable. The new Dammam–Red Sea connection underscores flynas’ commitment to growth and its alignment with Saudi Arabia’s broader goals to diversify its economy and elevate its tourism sector.
This new route also highlights the airline’s ability to cater to both leisure and business travellers, providing a vital link between the Eastern Province and the Red Sea.
In 2024, RSI marked another milestone by receiving its first international flight from Dubai International Airport, operated by flydubai. These developments underscore RSI’s role as a vital gateway, seamlessly connecting travelers to one of Saudi Arabia’s most breathtaking destinations.
Once fully operational, RSI will run entirely on renewable energy, sourced from the destination’s expansive solar farms, featuring 760,500 photovoltaic (PV) panels and one of the world’s largest off-grid Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
