Raffles Jeddah opens as Saudi Arabia expands its luxury hospitality footprint on the Red Sea

Raffles Hotels & Resorts has opened a new luxury property in Jeddah, expanding its Saudi footprint as the Kingdom continues to build its credentials as a global high-end tourism destination.

Raffles Jeddah becomes the brand’s second property in Saudi Arabia following its presence in Makkah.

But the opening of Raffles Jeddah represents more than another hotel launch. It highlights the continuing pace of premium hospitality investment across Saudi Arabia as the Kingdom expands its tourism offering beyond mega-projects such as the Red Sea and NEOM, while simultaneously strengthening established urban gateways including Jeddah, Riyadh and Makkah.

For travel advisors focused on Saudi Arabia, the opening adds another globally recognised luxury brand in a city increasingly positioning itself not only as a commercial and cultural centre, but also as a growing lifestyle and leisure destination on the Red Sea.

According to the company, the opening also marks a significant step for the Raffles brand in Saudi Arabia and forms part of the broader growth strategy of its parent group within the Kingdom.

“Our opening in Jeddah, a dynamic coastal city on the Red Sea that has been shaped by centuries of cultural exchange, is exciting and marks an important milestone for the Raffles brand while also strengthening Accor’s presence in Saudi Arabia,” said Omer Acar, CEO of Raffles Hotels & Resorts.

“With this debut, we are proud to contribute to the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 ambitions and its emergence as a leading global luxury destination.”

Jeddah’s growing importance within Saudi tourism

Jeddah occupies a unique place within Saudi Arabia’s tourism ecosystem. Historically recognised as the gateway to Makkah and as a major commercial centre, the city is increasingly developing a broader identity as a lifestyle destination combining culture, hospitality, entertainment and waterfront experiences.

Its location on the Red Sea gives it additional strategic value as Saudi Arabia seeks to expand coastal tourism and attract more international visitors.

Positioned on the Corniche, the new property places guests within reach of several of Jeddah’s established attractions, including entertainment venues, retail centres and waterfront destinations, while remaining approximately 25 minutes from the international airport.

For high-end travel advisors, this accessibility matters. Luxury travellers increasingly seek destinations where cultural attractions, shopping, gastronomy and relaxation can be integrated into a seamless experience rather than requiring extensive transfers between locations.

Hospitality increasingly rooted in local identity

One of the most notable characteristics of many recent Saudi luxury developments has been a move towards embedding local culture and heritage within hospitality concepts.

Rather than relying solely on international luxury aesthetics, many projects increasingly incorporate regional influences into architecture, interior design and storytelling.

Raffles Jeddah follows this approach through references to traditional Hejazi design, including mashrabiya elements and carved wood latticework. Interior spaces draw inspiration from historic districts such as Al-Balad while also featuring works by Saudi and Middle Eastern artists.

This broader industry movement reflects changing traveller expectations. Particularly among affluent travellers, there is growing demand for experiences that provide a stronger sense of place rather than standardised luxury.

Larger accommodation formats target premium travellers

The property includes 182 guestrooms, among them 40 suites, all featuring Red Sea views. Accommodation sizes begin at approximately 66 square metres, positioning them among the larger offerings within the city’s hospitality sector.

Room size is increasingly becoming a differentiating factor in Saudi luxury hospitality, particularly for family travellers from the GCC region and international high-end visitors who often prioritise space and privacy.

The hotel says interiors use colours inspired by the changing tones of the sea and sky, combined with local motifs and curated artwork.

Raffles

“Raffles Jeddah has been thoughtfully designed to celebrate the spirit of this remarkable city while delivering the elegance and highly personalised service that defines the Raffles brand,” said Fredrik Blomqvist, General Manager of Raffles Jeddah.

“From the architecture and art to culinary and wellness experiences, every detail reflects our commitment to creating a destination that feels both locally rooted and globally sophisticated.”

Culinary experiences become central to destination appeal

Food and beverage concepts increasingly play a strategic role in Saudi hospitality developments, often serving not only hotel guests but also local residents.

At Raffles Jeddah, dining forms a major component of the overall offering.

The property opens with Surl’O, described as a contemporary all-day brasserie overlooking the Red Sea and blending Eastern and Western culinary influences, alongside Atorie Lounge & Patisserie, which combines French pâtisserie traditions with Japanese techniques and presentations. A third restaurant concept focused on a Mediterranean-inspired experience is also planned for a later phase.

This approach mirrors a broader trend within Saudi hospitality where hotels increasingly function as social and lifestyle hubs rather than solely accommodation providers.

Wellness and events continue to drive hotel demand

Wellness remains another major growth segment across Saudi Arabia’s hospitality sector.

The hotel includes separate wellness facilities for men and women, with treatment rooms, Moroccan hammams, fitness centres, pools and private treatment suites.

The meetings and events market also continues to represent an important pillar of demand.

Facilities at the property include multiple meeting rooms, business facilities, VIP areas and large ballroom spaces designed for events and celebrations.

For Saudi Arabia, this aligns closely with wider ambitions to strengthen business travel and MICE activity while simultaneously developing lifestyle tourism.

As international hospitality brands continue expanding across the Kingdom, Saudi Arabia’s accommodation landscape is becoming increasingly diversified — spanning ultra-luxury island resorts, heritage-based hospitality experiences, major urban properties and lifestyle concepts.
